Rebecca Cunningham is an Australian curator, sound, and performance artist interested in all methods of making. Rebecca holds a Bachelor of Music, Performance from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music, Griffith University and Bachelor of Creative Industries 2A Honours, Interdisciplinary from QUT and is currently undertaking a PHD in Business [Griffith University] exploring the operation of trust in the global performance art network.

Cunningham is a founding member of the Artist Run Intiative – exist http://existenceperformanceart.wordpress.com
and has curated a number of events in Brisbane including MUSICIRCUS (2004), FLUX-US (2006) and CHAMBERS (2007), “exist in 08: an international live art event” (2008) and “exist-ence” (Jan & Nov 2010, Oct 2011).

Rebecca has also performed locally and internationally; most recently Rebecca has made work for the Cage in US festival (Brisbane, 2012), Kesher Festival (New York, 2012), the Emergency Index Launch (New York 2012), Brisbane Festival (2008, 2011), POW! POW! POW! ACTION Art Festival, San Francisco, USA (2010), IN:ACT festival, Hanoi, Vietnam (2010), National Review of Live Art, Glasgow (Feb 08 & Feb 09), Ipswich City Square Mall (2008), The Other Film Festival (Brisbane, Nov 07), Once Only (Brisbane, Sept 07), Fetter Field festival (Singapore, Sept 07) and has presented digital work in a range of other events, from Indonesia to Russia.

Rebecca is currently artist in residence at the Queensland State Library, The Edge [April – June 2012] and is involved in presenting further “exist-ence” events in 2012 beyond as well as working on some small objects for upcoming mail art project. Cunningham will also be undertaking a performance tour in the UK in 2012. She sees performance art as a way of living utopia in the moment, offering a space of pause, a place for personal meta-physical transformation.
